The best-known of 3M’s consumer tapes, Scotch Magic tape keeps your posters hanging, papers mended, and boxes labeled. With its matte exterior, the tape seemingly disappears when you apply it to a surface, yet you can still write on the tape for labeling purposes. Other benefits: it unwinds easily, you can machine copy through it, it’s water-repellent, and, unlike earlier versions of the tape, it won’t yellow or ooze adhesive with age. Among the more unusual uses for Scotch Magic tape, as catalogued by the 3M Company, include using the tape to cover cracks in fertilized pigeon eggs and to provide an anti-corrosive shield on a zeppelin airship.
